It’s Wednesday and that means mash-ups, right? Let’s get to them!
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego is a computer game that strove to teach its players (nominally kids) geography. You’d investigate a crime scene and surrounding areas to get clues (always interesting facts about a country) to the thief’s next location and you’d try to track him or her down before time ran out. You did this several times until master thief Carmen Sandiego herself came out and then you’d try to track her down to finish the game. It was a fun deal and I know a lot of us would play in the computer lab after school. It being educational and all, it was one of the rare games we were allowed to play. The downside of the early game of course was the limited number of places and clues meant there wasn’t a ton of replayability. The game got a bump by being translated into a kids’ game show on PBS and had a really fun theme song, sung live every episode by Rockapella.
Here’s Chae as Carmen Sandiego. I chose this franchise mainly because it had a female lead (even if Carmen was the bad guy) that wasn’t just wearing a skimpy costume. The high heels were a late addition when looking at how I drew Chae’s feet kinda looked off. The heel just made it look better.
That’s all for this week. We’ve got two more games to go. We know Sass and Cyran are coming up and also my favorite video game of all time which will be going on last. Who and what will it be? Well that’s two weeks away. Next week, you’ll find out the runner up!
