It was another two hours before he had finished cleaning himself off and dressing himself again. Gone were the scarlet clothes with black trimming, replaced by royal blue with yellow trim.
“I daresay I look even more dashing in blue than I did in red…” he said to himself as he admired his reflection. He secured the blue domino mask over his eyes, “Occasionally, Blue Rich must step in to shoulder the weight of justice!”
Satisfied with his appearance, he opened the door to his abode. Carefully this time, he poked his head out to make sure there was no oncoming traffic to splatter him. “Right then! Onward!” And out he marched with swagger in his step.
He nodded, to the townsfolk as he strode down the street, and acknowledged them with a proper tone, “Citizen.” The townsfolk paid him little heed. They were familiar with his antics.
He stood at the corner and turned back to address his adoring public, “Your eyes are clear! Blue Rich is here! So have no fear, for justice is near!” He pounded his left fist into his right palm as he said to himself, “Yes that’s the way!” He turned to face the street…and was greeted with more mud from a passing carriage.
“Oh come on!”
