Welcome back to the Wednesday Mash-up. Last week we saw the Animus gang gear up as members of the Joe squad. This week, we see what happens when they join the ranks of Kitty. Yeah, I changed Cobra to Kitty. More on that later.
First, let’s take a look at the Kitty logo, sure to inspire cuteness in the hearts of men.
First is Nektara as the Bear-oness. Surprisingly, I came up with the name pun AFTER I decided to cast Nektara as the Baroness and not the other way around. It was while I was drawing her that I decided I would change the logo. But the Kitty logo was not the original logo I drew.
Originally, Todrick was going to be Fox (Cobra) Commander and Sass was going to be Sasspentor. That was the plan when I drew Bear-oness so I drew a fox logo on her (which I didn’t really like). Then as I went along, I decided that Todrick would make a better match for Serpentor as Vulpintor, so the Cobra Commander role went to Sass. It made more sense to call her Kitty Commander, and that’s when I changed the logo to the cat one. Anyway, here’s Kitty Commander.
You’re probably thinking Vulpintor is next, but I finally decided that since I don’t especially LIKE Serpentor, I wasn’t going to use him. Instead, Todrick got cast as Dr. Noggin-knocker.
Kitty couldn’t do without a world-class tinkerer to build new weapons. They had to settle for Destryan.
Fortunately, they have Scrap-Oonch to pick up some of the slack (chosen specifically for his eye-covering mask). I drew Oonch first, before I thought of changing the Cobra logo, so originally he had a stylized cobra like Scrap-Iron’s on his helmet. I later had to go back and colour over it so I could draw the stylized kitty in its place.
Redtan is the Kitty master of disguise. Unfortunately, his idea of a disguise is changing the colour of his mask!
Zo-rana is much better at disguising herself, but her everyday-wear makes her easy to pick out in a crowd.
Finally, there’s Major Barnabludd, with his bionic arm. I can’t seem to resist giving Barnaby a mustache.
Stormshadow didn’t make the cut for the same reason Snake-Eyes didn’t make the cut last week. Their masks obscure too much of the faces, making it less obvious who’s underneath the mask (and I don’t particularly care for ninjas).
That’s all for this week. Next week, I’ll go back and finish the Avengers. I promise!
