Firefly – Jubal Early

It’s Tuesday night as I write this and it’s raining. I’m not a huge fan of the rain in any season, but after it’s snowed, it just feels worse somehow. And now I’m going to make things all better with a mash-up! Because that’s what I do.

Jubal Early is a bounty hunter and an interesting character. He’s not all there but he’s also incredibly skilled. It makes for a dangerous mix. He’s only in one episode but he’s memorable. So he gets to be featured in the Year of Mina!

Firefly – Saffron / Bridget / Yolanda

Hello and Good Friday to you all (see what I did there?) It’s mash-up time.

When we first meet Saffron, she’s a seemingly innocent girl who ends up married to Mal after a celebration on her home world. By the episode’s end, Serenity has a new nemesis. She ends up coming back for a second episode only this time, she’s Bridget or maybe Yolanda. I’m being purposefully vague so as not to spoil any of the stories for those of you who haven’t watched the show.

Here’s Chae as Saffron / Bridget / Yolanda. It’s a simple drawing. The costume isn’t very iconic. It’s been a stylistic choice to keep Chae from wearing wigs in most mash-ups, but this one I felt she had to, to sell the character.

Firefly – Badger

Friday morning. What’s there to besides get ready for work? Oh yeah! Mash-ups! Let’s get to it.

Badger is one of the criminal kingpins in the ‘verse. He has a love-hate relationship with Serenity and her crew. He hates Mal but he loves the money that only Mal can seem to bring in.

Here’s Skitter as Badger. Doesn’t he just look dapper?

Flashback Friday – Jayne Cobb

Hey there peoples! I’m trying to squeeze this in under the wire. Woo! [Edit: Published on March 31, 2017 @ 23:59. Perfect!]

Jayne Cobb isn’t a good man. He’s amoral and a mercenary. In a kill or be killed world, he’d just as soon kill you then give you the chance to even think about killing him. But darnit, there was something likeable about the character. They gave him such great lines.

Here’s Barnaby back as Jayne. I’m happy with how it turned out.

Here’s the comparison to the original, which really was my favorite piece of that set. The lines aren’t as crisp as today’s, but it was still a solid picture for me back then. There’s a reason why I kept this one for last.

Flashback Friday – Inara Serra

Hey! It’s still Friday so I’m not late with this week’s flashback so yeah!

Inara brings a little legitimacy and refinement to Serenity. Being a Companion can open doors that would otherwise remained closed. And she’s very VERY purty.

Here’s Sass as Inara. I’m keen on the shading on the dress. My least favorite part is the shoes. They were surprisingly difficult to get to match even as poorly as I feel they do. I don’t really understand why.

Here’s the comparison to the original piece. This was another case of an original piece that I was pretty happy with overall. The lines were shaky, but the rest was pretty solid. I went with a different outfit for the new piece mostly just to challenge myself.
