Welcome back to the Wednesday Mash-up. More Final Fantasy IX this week! As always, click to embiggen.

Here we have Barnaby dressed as Amarant Coral. This drawing posed an interesting challenge in that I just about never draw my characters from behind. It works out well that I feel that Barnaby is the character best suited for this kind of pose.

Rounding out the main heroic cast is Popkin as Quina Quen. Quina is a gourmet who loves to eat. I feel Popkin is a good match personality wise.

And so to conclude for this week is my reproduction of the Final Fantasy IX cover poster.

That’s it for this week. What? Popkin is being featured before Sass and Red Rich? What gives? Fear not friends. There’s another Final Fantasy IX installment left to go. See you next week!

Welcome back to the Wednesday Mash-up. Today we continue with Final Fantasy IX. Let’s get right to it, shall we?

First up this week, Nektara is dressed up as the lead female protagonist, Princess Garnet Til Alexandros XVII. The sketch for this one went up on Facebook weeks ago when I started working on this theme. As I said then, I had a lot of trouble with her boots. So much so that when they turned out too big for her body, rather than try to draw them smaller, I erased the rest of her body and redrew it bigger. I also cheated on the pose. The original features Garnet in a full profile pose. I went with a three quarters view. I used a picture of a Garnet action figure to help me out.

Next up, is Garnet’s loyal bodyguard, Adelbart Steiner, played here by Big Oonch. I think the armor turned out nicely. There were some intricate patterns on Steiner’s belt that I’m not really good at, so I just made up my own patterns. Oonch almost ended up as Freya because the hat she wears lends itself better to hiding the eyes, but I decided to keep the gender roles intact, so Oonch became Steiner who also has a big hat.

Last up this week, is Zoë as Eiko Carol. I gave her the hair, but I left out the horn on her head, because I couldn’t get it to look right when I was drawing it. I tried to replicate the subtle smile Eiko had on her face in the original picture, which doesn’t come naturally when the mouth is drawn with a simple line. I think she’s cute.

There’s more FFIX to come! See you next time!

It’s that time of week again. When the Animus cast get dressed up to cosplay. It’s the Wednesday Mash-up!

As advertised, this week’s theme is Final Fantasy IX. Why IX? Because it’s my favorite of the Final Fantasies. Someday I’ll go back and visit some of the other games in the series, but for now, I’m focusing on IX.

First up, is Todrick as the hero of the game, Zidane Tribal.

Next, is the drawing I previewed on Facebook last week…or was it the week before? Anyhoo! It’s Cyran as Vivi Ornitier. First I drew Cyran using a staff attachment for his wrench. Then, when I decided I wanted to recreate a FFIX poster, I realized I needed a picture of him with his hands at his sides. Rather than start a new picture from scratch, I whited out the middle section and redrew it so that he was in the appropriate pose. The blend worked out fairly well. The one with his hands at his sides looks bigger because it’s narrower so the resizing to a width of 700 pixels turned out bigger.

Last up for this week is Deema as Freya Crescent. Side-note: When I originally played the game, I thought Freya was a bird-type character, when in fact, she was a rodent-type character. Well, now she’s a lizard!

That’s all for this week. Next week we continue with more FFIX!
