Greetings folks and welcome to another edition of Flashback Friday. It’s always good to have you!

“Crashing through the sky, comes a fearful cry – Kitty! Kitty!”

It’s Cobra time again this week (and next week). This time, Todrick is here as Dr. Mindbender. As is often the case for me, it was tricky to get the legs and feet just right. Don’t forget to click on a picture to enlarge it.

Mindbender

Here’s his action figure card. I wasn’t able to think of any witty take on the name this time around.

Dr

And as always, here’s the comparison to the original mash-up. One thing I liked about the original were the gold badges holding his cape in place. I went with a different shape this time around which is a little cuter/sillier and silver instead of gold. The elegance of the older design is probably better but that’s the only thing that’s better from the original.

That’s all for this week. Have a greet weekend everybody! New Cobra flashback next week!

It’s Friday! I’m about to leave for Comiccon in a little over an hour but I couldn’t go without posting this week’s Flashback, right? Right! Let’s do this!

If I were a little better in planning ahead, I’d have had a comic-themed flashback for today. Well, G.I.JOE has a comic book, but you know what I mean…or do you? I think I’m babbling which is a solid sign I should just move on. Remember, all the pictures are clickable, so you know…click them.

Red Rich is here as Zartan. For once, Rich decided that changing the colour of his mask isn’t an adequate disguise so he added a stick-on beard. The yellow mask does look sharp though.

Zartan

Here’s the action figure card. Originally Zartan was sold in a box with his Water Chameleon. I did some searching and found a card. I don’t recall ever seeing him sold this way back in the day though.

Zarichtan-on-Card

Here’s the comparison to the original mash-up. The first time around, I didn’t like that Zartan’s card art pose meant that you couldn’t see most of his costume so I went with a page from the comic book. I really wanted to replicate the cards this time around so you don’t get to see much of his chest plate.

That’s all for this week folks! Have a great weekend! I know I should!

Did you know that 100% of Fridays lead into Saturdays? That’s a fact you can take to the bank though I don’t know why you would. There’s no money in that fact. It’s just true. Anyway, this isn’t Factual Friday, it’s Flashback Friday so let’s get on to the business at hand, shall we?

It’s Yo Joe time again. As a;ways. the pictures are 100% clickable. That means you can click on them. What happens when you click on them? You get to see them only bigger. It’s neat and highly recommended.

Nektara is Cover Girl. I’ve been basing all the Joe flashbacks on the original Joe card art. To the best of my knowledge Cover Girl was never available carded in the original 80’s Joe toy line. She was only available with the Wolverine tank. The box art had her seated in the tank so there was no full-body shot to work with. I had to cheat and use the card art from the 2013 rerelease, which aped the style of the originals without being quite as good (though I must point out, better than I could have done). Cover Girl was drawn in a really simple pose and yet I had so much trouble putting Nektara into the same pose, mostly because of the legs.

UPDATE: I was looking through yojoe.com for the date of the carded Cover Girl’s release and I stumbled on a picture of a Brazilian carded figure based on Cover Girl from 1984 called Agente Sparta. It’s funny because I feel the card art of the knock-off looks closer to the style of the original Joe card art. It would have been easier to draw to boot.

Cover-Bear

Here’s the action figure card mockup. I chose to stick with the old card layout instead of trying to replicate the actual 2013 card.

Cover-Bear-on-Card1

Here’s the comparison to the original mash-up. The original was based on a panel from the Marvel G.I.Joe comic. Throughout her character’s history, Cover Girl has switched between being a blonde and being a redhead. When she appeared in the original G.I.Joe A Real American Hero animated miniseries, she was blonde. Her action figure was a redhead and her later appearances in the cartoon reflected the action figure’s look. In the live action movie, they cast her as a blonde and her 2013 update was left blonde.

That’s all for this week. Next week, be prepared for a walk on the Dark Side! Have a good week folks!

Mmmmm…Friday! I love Fridays! That’s a day for flashbacks! Speaking of…

Blasting through the sky, comes a fearful cry, KITTY!

It’s Kitty (Cobra) time again! And this week it’s the boss’s turn to shine. It’s Sass as Kitty Commander! Remember to click on any image to enlarge it.

KittyCommanderAs always for a Joe-related mash-up, I’ve got the action figure card design for you as well.

Kitty-Commander-on-Card1

And here’s the comparison to the original mash-up. I remember really being happy with the original mash-up. I covered all the details of Cobra Commander’s uniform and liked the shining effect on the faceplate achieved with solid colours. The new one is an improvement on all points of course.

That’s all for this week. Next week, Cyran is back and he’s going to be motionless. What does that mean? Come back next Friday to find out!
