Mash-up time! Mash-up time! It’s my very favorite time of week…tied with new comic day 1, new comic day 2, blog day and bandit comic day. That said, let’s get to the mash-up.

Unhygienix is the village fishmonger. Despite the questionable freshness of his wares, he manages to stay in business which is surprising given that the villagers all seem to almost exclusively eat wild boar. A common gag in the series is for someone to make a comment about how Unhygienix’s fish are not fresh and for a fight to break out. His village rival is Fulliautomatix, the blacksmith (more on him next week).

I juggled roles around at the last minute. Up until I sat down to start drawing this piece, Tomaw was going to be playing Unhygienix. I switched because I decided that I didn’t want Popkin to play the part I originally had planned for him and Tomaw was the only other male character left (I’m not posting these in the order I drew them) so I switched them. You’ll see which role Tomaw got in a few weeks.

Ordralphabetix

That’s all for this week. Next week is Fulliautomatix’s turn. Who’ll be playing him? Find out next Wednesday (it’s not Tomaw).

Dear reader, come on down! You’re the next contestant on the Mash-up is Right! Let’s skip directly to the Showcase, okay?

Cleopatra is the Egyptian queen. She first appears in Asterix and Cleopatra (funny that huh?). Julius Caesar is in love with her but she’s angry because he says the Egyptian people are no longer the great people they once were. She bets him that her people can build a great palace in only three months. She assigns the task of building the palace to her royal architect, Edifis. If he is successful, he’ll be covered in pieces of gold. If he fails, he’ll be fed to the crocodiles. Fearing for his life, he goes to Gaul to seek out his old friend Getafix for help. Getafix, Asterix, Obelix and Dogmatix go to Egypt to help build the palace. It’s one of my favorite Asterix stories. The animated movie is also great and was a staple of my Christmases every year as it airs every year on Ciné Cadeau. Cleopatra makes at least one more appearance in the series, but it’s kind of a surprise, so I don’t want to spoil it.

The original plan was for Zoë to be Cleopatra, but I just couldn’t wrap my head around drawing the wig with over Zoë’s ears. I therefore pulled the ol’ switcheroo and went with Nektara instead. I think it worked out for the best.

Cleopatra

That’s all for this week. Next week will feature…no, I’m not going to tell you. You have to come back next Wednesday to find out.

Hello you. Yes you. You’re the one reading this post right now, right? Of course. You wanna see a new mash-up? Coming right up!

Geriatrix is married to the most stunning woman in the entire village. She’s never given a name in the series, so she’s just Mrs. Geriatrix. She can be flirtatious at times when it suits her needs. With the other women of the village she can be quite catty. I can’t really think of an instance where she was a central character to a story. She just looks good on the page.

Chae gets to play Mrs. Geriatrix, and I’ll be honest, the hairdo doesn’t do her any favors. I refrained from giving Chae any wigs in the past and this mash-up just validates my decision. As always, if you want to see a close-up of the picture, click on it.

Madame Agecanonix

That’s all for this week. A new mash-up will appear next week. Which character will be featured? You’ll have to come back next Wednesday to find out.

Hello peoples! Wednesday almost came and went without a mash-up! I swear at least three times today I told myself I needed to post and every time I got distracted. I had just put my head down for a good night’s sleep when I remembered again. Well, better late than never!

Geriatrix is the village elder. He’s a cantankerous old soul, always griping about how things used to be better in the old days. He’s small and feeble but he’s not afraid to take a whack with his cane at a young whippersnapper who gets fresh. Somehow he married the most beautiful woman in the village (more on her next week).

Since Diggle was already cast as Getafix, I decided to go with my other elder characer, Crismus, for Geriatrix. It’d been a while since I’d drawn Crismus. I like the way he turned out. I think I managed to capture just the right attitude for Geriatrix.

That’s all for this week. As noted above, next week we’ll take a look at Geriatrix’s loving wife. See you then!

Hello Friends of the Mash-up. Welcome to this week’s installment. Let’s get to it!

Panacea is a minor character in the series. She returns to the village after going away to school. Obelix is absolutely smitten with her. Dogmatix is wary of her at first (though he warms up to her rather quickly). He’s then crushed when he learns that she’s engaged. When she tells him and Asterix that her fiance has been drafted into the Roman legion, he volunteers to save him. Asterix and Obelix than sign up as legionnaires. It’s one of my favorite stories actually.

Even though she’s a minor character, I decided it was time to feature one of the gals and Panacea was the first character I wanted to try. Sass was my first choice to play her. I dig how this one turned out. As always, click on the picture to enlarge it.

Falbala

That’s all for this week. Who’s going to show up next week? I haven’t decided yet. I have a few to choose from. You’ll have to come back next Wednesday and find out! See you then!
